Primary Care AHP Advisers - call for Expressions of Interest

The NHS Long Term Plan and GP contract commit to increasing the numbers of physiotherapists and paramedics working in general practice. Successful implementation of these roles, and associated improvements in patient care, will benefit from coordinated approaches to workforce supply, training and education.

We are therefore delighted to share this HEE support in the North West.

Organisations in Cheshire and Merseyside, Greater Manchester, and South Cumbria and Lancashire are invited to submit expressions of interest (EOI) for hosting Primary Care AHP Adviser roles.

This is an exciting opportunity to support the implementation of physiotherapy, paramedic and other AHP roles, including first contact practitioners (FCPs), in general practice. The roles will offer experienced AHPs the opportunity to contribute to workforce transformation, working closely with a range of local, regional and national stakeholders. Advisers will be experienced AHPs who are released for a proportion of their time (up to 0.5WTE) over up to 12 months to work across an STP/ICS and regional footprint and across the North West region.

The advisers will provide multi-professional leadership to:

  • Advise a range of stakeholders on high quality care and sustainable workforce supply, training and education in primary care in relation to AHPs
  • Support a coordinated approach across primary, community and secondary care within STPs/ICSs and across the North West.
  • Support the development of practical implementation resources.
  • Support PCNs in recruiting, training and retaining AHPs.

HEE will commit to provide investment as outlined in the guidance document attached. This also explains expectations of employers and provides a model job description and person specification.

We encourage you to submit your organisation’s interest, by completing and returning the EOI proforma attached, by midday Monday 11th November.

To help with the any questions about this opportunity HEE will provide a Skype briefing session and respond to queries on Thursday 31st October at 12.30pm. To book a place please send your contact details, including email and telephone number, to Lisa.Deakin@hee.nhs.uk (please check that your organisation can supports Skype functionality).
