Social Prescribing - Innovative Responses to Covid 19
Tuesday 20 October 2020, 02:00pm - 04:00pm

You are warmly invited to attend the Social Prescribing - Innovative Responses to Covid 19 webinar.  This webinar has been developed by the North West Population Health and Prevention Network and it reflects an on-going thematic approach to exploring Covid 19 impacts on health inequalities, on our communities and the healthcare workforce.

This theme could not be more pertinent in relation to both social prescribing and the role link workers play.  Link workers were literally thrust on to the frontline during lockdown and innovation was paramount to support those shielding and vulnerable individuals in the new normal.  If anyone had any doubts about the value and importance of social prescribing Covid 19 should have put paid to that.  However, you will be forgiven for wondering is social prescribing still relevant at a time of social distancing with its pre-Covid emphasis on connecting people up through asset based community approaches.  The answer is more than ever and this webinar will make it clear why.

Covid 19 turned a spotlight on the need to address health inequalities because it has simultaneously exacerbated these inequalities.  In so doing it has heightened the need to understand the wider determinants of health and the contexts in which people live their lives, and it has underlined the limitations of a medical model.  There has never been a more important time to consider what kinds of wellbeing journeys can be most impactful and how this knowledge can support the very groups who have been hit hardest by Covid 19.  In an era challenged by a global pandemic and economic uncertainty, non-medical, innovative social prescriptions have the potential to make a real difference to people’s lives.  This session will demonstrate why nature based opportunity and a commitment to early years will make the difference.
